This study analyzes how hermeneutic strategies foster the understanding and meaningful interpretation of mathematical concepts, contributing to the development of mathematical thinking. Through a systematic review based on the PRISMA statement guidelines, articles published between 2017 and 2023 were evaluated. Inclusion criteria considered literature review and original studies addressing key terms such as “development of mathematical thinking”, “university students” and “hermeneutic strategies”. The search in the Scopus, SciELO and WoS databases allowed the selection of 25 relevant articles. The results underline the importance of systematically observing cognitive processes, motivation, play and innovation as key elements to strengthen mathematical reasoning through appropriate pedagogical tools.
