SIERRA NIETO, Víctor Hugo  y  REA FAJARDO, María Soledad. Labor demand for Physical Therapy graduates in Ecuador. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.34, pp.1884-1896.  Epub 25-Jul-2024. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i34.840.

Physical Therapy training in Ecuador faces important challenges to align with the needs of the labor market. This study aimed to analyze the evolution of the graduate profile and its adjustment to current demands through a systematic review of the literature. The PRISMA approach was employed to identify relevant studies, resulting in the inclusion of 20 articles published between 2020 and 2022. The findings revealed a notable disconnect between academic training and the competencies required by the market. The studies indicated deficiencies in practical training and a lack of integration of advanced technologies into academic programs. In addition, there was a shortage of specialization programs and an uneven distribution of physical therapists, especially in rural areas. Problems related to working conditions and professional welfare were also highlighted. It is concluded that there is an urgent need to update Physical Therapy programs to reflect market demands and to strengthen continuing education. The implementation of public policies to encourage work in rural areas and the creation of graduate follow-up systems to improve professional adaptation are recommended. These actions could close the gap between academic training and market needs, benefiting professionals and patients.
