SANCHEZ DIAZ, Edwin e DAVILA ROJAS, Oscar Melanio. E-learning in higher education: A systematic review. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.34, pp.1866-1883. Epub 25-Jul-2024. ISSN 2616-7964. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i34.839.
Educational virtualization in higher education has acquired great relevance by facilitating the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in university education. This article explores the importance of virtual education, its characteristics and the need for its sustainability. The objective is to evaluate the impact of virtualization on the development of research activities, the role of the teacher and student autonomy. A systematic literature review was carried out using Scielo, Scopus and Web of Science sources. The results indicate that most of the articles come from Scopus (57%), with 62% in English and 38% in Spanish, and that 85% of the studies are from the year 2022. The review reveals that virtual education facilitates the acquisition of competencies, promotes autonomy and allows training from any location, provided there is good connectivity. In conclusion, educational virtualization has proven to be effective and necessary, overcoming the limitations of face-to-face education and guaranteeing wider and quality access to higher education.
