BURGA GUEVARA, Salvador  e  TELLO SANCHEZ, Violeta. Latin American studies on the development of scientific research in pedagogical higher education institutions. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.34, pp.1801-1810.  Epub 25-Jul-2024. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i34.834.

The development of scientific research in Latin America faces significant challenges due to factors such as social inequality and insufficient economic investment. This study aims to analyze how these factors influence scientific production in higher education institutions in the region and to propose strategies to improve it. A systematic review of the literature was carried out, selecting relevant academic sources through a search in databases such as Scopus, SciELO and Google Scholar. The selection criteria included temporal relevance (last 8 years), focus on scientific research in higher education, and quality of publications. The sources selected cover studies on research investment, impact on educational quality and scientific development in Latin America. The analysis reveals that, despite the growth in scientific production, inequalities persist in the distribution of resources and in the global visibility of the results. Countries with greater investment have shown more robust developments, while others face severe limitations. We conclude that it is crucial to increase economic investment in scientific research and to foster a research culture in educational institutions. Scientific research should be seen as a key tool for social and economic progress, and governments should take measures to support and promote research at all educational levels.
