Resumen

MERINO DUENAS, Betsy  y  AGUILAR FRUNA, Mario. Development of mathematical skills in adolescent students. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.34, pp.1620-1634.  Epub 25-Jul-2024. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i34.822.

The learning of mathematics requires that the student possesses certain basic skills; these have to do with mental processes that will allow him/her to achieve a correct development of the numerical sense. The objective of this study is to analyze the aspects involved in the development of mathematical skills in adolescent students. Systemic review was used and the search process was supported by the PRISMA methodology. The databases consulted were Scopus, SciELO and Sciencia Direct; inclusion and exclusion criteria were established for the selection of articles. Sixteen documents were selected which met the criteria indicated. The results show that the main difficulties faced by adolescents in developing mathematical skills are related to access to digital resources; mental health and cognitive skills; and the family-social environment. It is concluded that the different aspects that may hinder this process should be addressed with the understanding and support of teachers and parents.
