ACOSTA-ROMAN, Mercedes et al. Factors in university student desertion in an area of extreme poverty in Peru. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.34, pp.1315-1328. Epub 25-Jul-2024. ISSN 2616-7964. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i34.799.
The knowledge of the factors linked to the university student population is fundamental to anticipate, through interventions, the possible student desertion in the Professional Schools of Nursing and Civil, Food and Forestry-Environmental Engineering of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Tayacaja Daniel Hernández Morillo, in Peru. The objective of this study is to describe the level of risk of desertion based on economic, environmental-family and academic factors of the students. The methodology employed has a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective approach. The population consisted of 701 students enrolled in the 2022-II academic semester, and a sample of 667 students was obtained through a non-probabilistic purposive sampling. The factors that influence dropout are: economic (42%), environmental and family (62%) and academic (75%). The study concludes with a description of the conditioning factors in student desertion.
