BRITO, Jacqueline Susana Sayán. Emotional intelligence and research competencies in students of a private university. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.34, pp.1281-1292.  Epub 25-Jul-2024. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i34.796.

Currently, drastic changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide and in education may influence student emotional management and performance. This research determined the relationship between emotional intelligence and research competencies of undergraduate students in a private university. For this purpose, a descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational subtype research was carried out; a non-probabilistic sample of 132 students was used. Two questionnaires were applied: the research skills self-assessment questionnaire and the Trait Meta Mood Scale TMMS-24 questionnaire. The results showed that 74% of the students have an adequate level of emotional intelligence, 14% have a low level and only 12% have a high level. With respect to investigative competencies, the majority presented an excellent level (62%), 38% showed an average level and none presented an inadequate level. A low intensity linear correlation was found between emotional intelligence and research competencies in students (Spearman's Rho = 0.316, p < 0.01). It is concluded that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and research competencies.
