The pandemic produced by COVID-19 radically changed social behavior, affecting the educational environment. The objective of this article was to analyze the use of WhatsApp in the development of the pedagogical process in rural schools at the secondary level. A narrative review was conducted, the search for information was conducted in refereed and indexed published in the last four (4) years for the literature review, in which criteria inclusion identification, evaluation, eligibility was applied. The queries were made in repositories or search platforms such as Concytec, Scopus, and Google Scholar, using the descriptors: "use of WhatsApp", "Pandemic", "rural schools" "education", combining them with the Boolean AND and OR. Ten articles were selected. It was concluded that in rural schools, despite the deficiencies in the use of technologies, the usefulness of the social network WhatsApp is equally or better positioned in its use by students in urban areas, mainly due to its global expansion and represents an additional alternative for interaction with the teacher.
