Abstract
GUERRA, Roberto Walter Ramón; GARCIA, Ulises Córdova and RUTTI, Yuliana Yessy Gómez. "Leo y Aprendo" program on reading comprehension in students of a public educational institution. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2023, vol.7, n.30, pp.1727-1738. Epub July 24, 2023. ISSN 2616-7964. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v7i30.623.
Human knowledge is embodied in texts since the invention of writing; therefore, understanding what is read is crucial for learning and development. After evidencing, in a public educational institution, that the reading comprehension of its students was not well developed, the study applied the program "Leo y Aprendo" (I Read and Learn) to improve it. The research was applied, descriptive-explanatory, with an experimental design. The intervention was applied to the experimental group of 30 students, while the non-intervention (control) group, also of 30, did not apply the intervention. The pretest showed that the reading comprehension of the group with and without intervention presented an "Initial" level. However, in the posttest, the intervention group improved to "Satisfactory", while the non-intervention group remained at the "Initial" level. The Mann-Whitney U test showed that the program had a significant influence (sig.=0.05) on the improvement of reading comprehension.
