Abstract

TERRONES, Doris Cristobal; CCANTO, Florencio Flores; CONDORI, Felipe Supo  and  QUISPE, Sucet Alexsandra Cerrillo. Reading comprehension strategies and mathematical problem solving in primary school students. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2023, vol.7, n.27, pp.77-85.  Epub Feb 28, 2023. The study brings to the forefront the relevance of reading comprehension for the development of mathematical skills, so the general objective of the study was to determine the relationship between reading comprehension strategies and mathematical problem solving in elementary school students in a public school in Lima. The study has a basic quantitative research approach. The research design was non-experimental with a census sample of 90 students. The survey was used as a technique and the instruments used were those proposed by Bastiand, where self-tests and quantitative techniques were applied to collect information from the students. The results showed that reading comprehension has a significant relationship with the resolution of mathematical problems; therefore, it is concluded that the improvement of inferential and literal reading comprehension strategies would have as a consequence an increase in the level of mathematical problem solving.

Keywords : Literal comprehension; Inferential comprehension; Math skills.
