The inclusion of mobile technologies in different social contexts has generated new perspectives of immersion in educational settings of teaching and learning. We reflected on the impact of app-mediated mobile learning in educational contexts in Latin America to interpret how the integration of mobile technologies in learning environments can contribute to the improvement of quality and educational innovation processes. The descriptive study analyzed the educational potential provided by mobile devices in the classroom and outside of it. The scientific article, mobile learning initiatives of UNESCO and book chapters formed the research sources. It was established that mobile learning is presented as a strategy that allows closing the digital gap, reducing some educational inequalities and strengthening the great challenges, such as the construction of flexible public policies and the transformation of the role of the teacher.
