Abstract

TORRES, Alicia Cevallos  and  PEREZ, Abrahan Mora. Primary historical sources for the development of critical thinking in the History subject. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2022, vol.6, n.26, pp.1824-1836.  Epub Nov 23, 2022. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v6i26.454.

History is under permanent construction but its teaching methodology is anchored in the past. The current research aimed to implement and check the effectiveness of a didactic strategy based on the use of primary historical sources for the development of students' critical thinking in the History subject. A quantitative, quasi-experimental, approach was used, confirmatory type, which was applied to a simple random probability sample of 46 students attending the third year of General Unified High School at the "San Alfonso" Educational Unit in the city of Ambato, during the 2021-2022 school year. In order to collect data, the Contextualized Critical Thinking Assessment EP-2C was used. The results obtained from the Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed that there is efficacy in the application of the didactic strategy to increase critical thinking, said efficacy is reflected in a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest (P≤ 0.05). In conclusion, the use of a didactic strategy based on primary historical sources improves the development of students' critical thinking.
