The objective of this research was to describe the current technological tools used in education during the time of confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as some benefits that new information and communication technologies offer to higher education. A documentary research was carried out, with a descriptive design. The technique used was content analysis. Two units of analysis with their categories were established. As a result, it is highlighted that among the most used tools are the Learning Management System, virtual reality, video games and content managers. Its benefits include understanding, digital literacy, autonomy, collaborative work, critical thinking, flexibility, motivation and renewal of teaching methods and processes. It is concluded that technology is an essential tool for higher education, technological tools help teaching and learning fundamentally in difficult times such as those that the world is going through today due to the pandemic.
