Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the level of use of reading metacomprehension strategies by university students from a private and a public entity. The applied methodology has a non-experimental, descriptive, comparative, cross-sectional design and a quantitative approach. The data collection process was with the survey technique and the instrument was the Inventory of Metacomprehension Strategies by Maribeth Schmitt, the sample consisted of 580 university students from the elementary school (private and public). It was concluded that there are no significant differences in the level of use of reading metacomprehension strategies by university students from a private entity and a public entity, since the result of the Mann-Whitney U test the sig. > 0.05 therefore, since both university students (private and public) show a low level of use of reading meta-comprehension strategies.
