Abstract The purpose of this article is to show the history of the traditional Ecuadorian sport "ecuavoley" its social and cultural impact, taking into account the importance that this sporting activity currently has inside and outside of Ecuador. The objective of this work was to know the origin and time in which the term "ecuavoley" began to be used, as well as the provinces in which its practice began. The research used as a technique the analysis of qualitative information, based on four scientific phases, preparatory, field, documentary and informative historical analysis. Using empirical interpretation as a tool, and observation and analysis of documents, videos and photos as techniques, as well as unstructured in-depth interviews, with open questions, finally applying intensive and extensive direct observation. Obtaining as a result that the ecuavoley originates in the Ecuadorian provinces of Imbabura and Loja at the beginning of the 19th century, beginning to cali it ecuavoley from 1930.
