Abstract The low school performance evidenced in the Ecuadorian educational system according to the data provided by Ineval (Institute for the Evaluation of Educational Quality), motivates the investigation of this problem. In such virtue; the study proposed to analyze the relationships between social skills and academic performance of Secondary Education students from an educational center in the city of Loja, aged between 16 and 18 years. The methodology used for the analysis of the information is constituted by the descriptive design. The sample considered in the study consisted of 91 second year high school students. The measurement instruments used were the EHS Social Skills Scale test, and the cumulative record of qualifications of each of the participating students. It is concluded that the high level of social skills is related to high academic performance, while the low level of social skills is related to low levéis of academic performance
