Abstract

The present article conducts a theoretical review of the main concepts and theories referred to the country of origin and the purchase intention of products. Initially the globalization is analyzed as a cause of transformations worldwide that have affected the production, the competitiveness and the commercialization of products as well as the consumer behavior that is unrolled in this context. In addition, different models referring to the purchase intention and the stages of the buying process of a product have been reviewed. Finally, the most outstanding theories of the country of origin (COO) are presented from its beginnings to its current evolution, emphasizing the effect that this variable exerts on the intention to purchase vehicles.
