This article briefly summarizes the main dimensions associated with the franchise concept. From different perspectives of authors and realities, clarif Íes the concept of real franchise, product and business formats as the two major modalities and insist that the business format is the most developed and complete. In particular it offers a guide of aspects that allow to differentiate between a real or developed franchise with respect to pseudo-franchises or incomplete franchises
