Abstract This article presents the results obtained in the research on the use of new technologies and digital transformation in the rock drilling process in open pit mines. Automation is presented as a disruptive factor and a driver of improvements that provide sustainability in rock drilling. Seven main operating parameters were used to combine measurement while drilling (MWD) and other information generated by the rig while drilling holes in six different lithologies in an iron ore mine located in the central region of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Adjustments and corrections were made to the data collected to minimize external influences other than the rock itself, ensuring the effectiveness of the analyses. Finally, we soughtto compare the performance of the drilling process in manual and automatic modes of operation, thus demonstrating the efficiency and impact on the sustainability of rock drilling operations in open pit mines.
