YASUJIRO OMACHI, Geraldo; CURI, Adilson y ARROYO ORTIZ, Carlos Enrique. Postergação de fechamento de minas de hierro, um estudo de caso no quadrilátero ferrífero (qf) - Brazil. REV. MAMYM [online]. 2024, vol.9, n.1, pp.53-60. ISSN 2519-5352.
Abstract The Iron Quadrangle (QF) has always been the main iron ore producing province in Brazil. Depending on the need for raw materials for the national and international steel industry, the mining of hematite ore has been the great differentiator in meeting demand. However, in order to meet foreign demand, it has become essential to mine other rock masses with iron content, specifically itabirites. The aim of this article is to evaluate the increase in the useful life of an iron ore mine located in the Iron Quadrangle (MG). To illustrate the proposal, a real comparative study was carried out between a Mining Master Plan (DMP) for hematite material and a DMP for itabirite material for the same mine at different times, based on their respective Economic Exploitation Plans (PAE's). The aim of this study is to assess the need to increase the useful life of iron ore mines and consequently postpone mine closures
