The University Mayor de San Andrés, following its policy of social interaction, institutionalized in 2006 the modality of direct admission for the best students from rural municipalities of the department of La Paz. However, far from the initial expectations, this modality presents different problems and conflicts when considering the situation of young rural-urban migrants in their university insertion. Thus, this study focuses on the educational process and social reproduction of these students through a mixed methodology, contrasting experiences and perspectives with statistical data that reflect the results achieved in the long term, in this case, professionalization. The results show different problematic situations in the university, mainly statements and actions of discrimination, exclusion and confrontation by students from the urban area, teachers and administrative staff. Likewise, the cultural shock, referring to the assimilation of shared values and traditions, represents problems at the beginning of the training cycle, since the socialization processes are opposite. As a conclusion, it is established that the different situations force many of these young people to abandon their studies due to the incompatibilities presented in the academic space, which is strange and different from what is expected.
