MORALES, Joaquín y VARGAS, Yelussa. DETERMINANTS OF DROPPING-OUT OF SCHOOL AND WORKING AMONGST BOLIVIAN TEENAGERS. Inv. y Des. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.2, pp.93-110. ISSN 1814-6333.
This research explores the determinants underlying the choice between studying or working among Bolivian teenagers. We find that, even if teen work is related to dropping out of school, these categories are not mutually exclusive; indeed, there are teenagers that simultaneously work and study, and there are also teenagers that do neither. Using a biprobit model, we find that the choice between work and study is heavily influenced by income, but also by the education of the parents, by differences in the family structure, and by regional differences.
