Abstract The objective of this research was to determine the current situation of women's empowerment in Latin America, as well as to establish the influence of gender gap indicators in the Gender Gap Index. The data were collected from the World Bank statistics databases, for the IBG a period of ten years (2006-2015) was covered, to establish the relationship between the indicators worked with data from 2015. A descriptive analysis was carried out, longitudinal and correlational. The main findings indicate that the IBG, advanced only 13.25% in the study period. The gender gap indicators explain the IBG in 95.4%, with the most influential variables being political participation and economic participation.
