GIERHAKE, Klaus and FERNANDEZ-JARDON, Carlos Maria. Municipal networks as an instrument to spread social innovations: The Quito Metropolitan district case. Oikos Polis [online]. 2018, vol.3, n.2, pp.11-54. ISSN 2521-960X.
Abstract Social innovations appear as potential solutions to pre-existing problems in large agglomerations, integrating the participation of the actors involved. The success of these innovations needs its diffusion. This paper analyzes the concept of municipal networks as an instrument for disseminating social innovations, based on the observation of real experiences combined with a series of semi-structured interviews carried out in 2014 with social agents from the Metropolitan District of Quito (Ecuador) and international expert observers. The results show that there is a high interdependence of characteristics of metropolitan networks and territorial processes of social innovation.
