Abstract

ACTIS DI PASQUALE, Eugenio  and  ESTEBAN GALLO, Marcos. The Impact of the pandemic on precarious and segmented labor markets: an analysis of the effects on the Argentine labor scenario and its incidence in the city of Mar del Plata. Revista de coyuntura y perspectiva [online]. 2022, vol.7, n.2, pp.55-92. ISSN 2415-0622.  https://doi.org/1056274/ec.2022.v.7n2.3.

This article aims to analyze the impact of the pandemic on the Argentine labor market and its incidence in the city of Mar del Plata, taking into account the conditions that occurred in our society at the beginning of 2020 due to macroeconomic policies of cut implemented between 2015 and 2019. Strictly speaking, the labor market was deteriorated and segmented, with a high percentage of informality both locally and nationally. In this sense, the approach is made from the evolution of the basic rates of the labor market, the proportion of the main occupational categories and the amount of registered work, segmenting the information by sex. The results obtained allow us to account for the differential impact between women and men, represented by the lower recovery of female employment, driven mainly by self-employment.

Keywords : COVID-19; labor segmentation; gender.
