Resumen

GUILLEN MAQUEDA, Efrén Jerónimo  y  GODINEZ ENCISO, Juan Andrés. Innovation and income inequality at the regional level in Mexico. Revista de coyuntura y perspectiva [online]. 2022, vol.7, n.1, pp.102-130. ISSN 2415-0622.  https://doi.org/1056274/ec.2022.v.7n1.4.

Innovation is essential to the growth and development of a nation. However, there are few studies that have considered its effects on income inequality. The literature has focused on developed countries, which present evidence of a positive relationship between these two variables. The studies have been carried out for emerging countries, for the most part, reach the same conclusion, without making any generalization, due to various factors, such as the level of income strata or the regional distribution analyzed, which can modify the results. This article examines the relationship between innovation and income inequality at the regional level in Mexico, 2005-2014. There is evidence of a positive link between innovation and the different measures of inequality used here. It can be inferred that the unemployment rate and the highly qualified population tend to decrease the levels of income inequality.

Palabras clave : Innovation; income distribution; regional economic activity.
