Abstract The aim of this paper is to delve into the vulnerability of the Spanish economy to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which, despite the budding recovery, will leave deep scars to be repaired. We analyse how this crisis has unfolded in the economic context, what weaknesses the Spanish economy had before its arrival, how the country has coped with the situation and what measures have been taken in particular to deal with the challenge. We compare Spain's situation quantitatively with the main European countries in order to conclude on the key elements that make up the vulnerability previously defined
