Abstract The objective of this work is to estimate the effect in the short term of the health and economic crisis caused by COVID-19 on the conditions of monetary poverty of the Dominican population. For such purposes, a simulation has been implemented in which, from the input-output matrix, the losses in employment caused by demand shocks in the activities of greater relative importance for the country (Tourism and Construction) and with a higher level of linkage with other economic activities. Once the job losses have been assigned, the impact of these changes on the monetary poverty levels of the population is estimated at a micro level, using the 2019 National Continuous Labour Force Survey (ENCFT). The short term of mitigation programs implemented by the government to assist formal workers and the most vulnerable people.
