Abstract

GARCIA SAMANIEGO, Juan Manuel  and  QUEZADA PARDO, Andrea del Cisne. Associativity, sustainability and certifications in coffee production southern Ecuador. Revista de coyuntura y perspectiva [online]. 2021, vol.6, n.2, pp.33-59. ISSN 2415-0622.

Abstract This research developed geographically in the provinces of Loja, Zamora Chinchipe and El Oro in southern Ecuador, identifies the characteristics of greater or lesser sustainability in the groups of coffee farmers that have certifications (organic and / or fair trade), in contrast with those farmers without international or local certifications. The results obtained show that the associated farms have a high sustainability index with environmentally friendly production practices, unlike the non-associated farms that do not have certifications, being located in a medium category with certain responsible and environmentally friendly actions.

Keywords : Sustainability; peasants; coffee; certification; environment.
