ROMERO PADILLA, César. Economic access to food in Bolivia from the perspective of macroeconomic indicators (1985-2018). Revista de coyuntura y perspectiva [online]. 2020, vol.5, n.2, pp.59-80. ISSN 2415-0622.
Abstract: Macroeconomic indicators that determine economic access to food have been identified in different geographical areas and historical contexts. Even though the Bolivian food sector has grown on average 4.57% in the last three decades, it has not prevented the population from having problems in accessing food. Consequently, there is a need to carry out a historical analysis of macroeconomic indicators, to objectively identify those that determine food consumption. In this sense, for the period 1985-2018, it is evident that the unemployment rate, underemployment, employment in the informal sector, the rate of food inflation, the incidence of moderate and extreme poverty, in addition to income inequality, have historically become the macroeconomic determinants of economic access to food, which would require structural public policies aimed at improving such access by the Bolivian population.
