Abstract

MAMANI ROMERO, Idelfonso. The Bolivian party model and a proposal for institutionalization. Rev. Jur. Der. [online]. 2025, vol.14, n.22, pp.155-182.  Epub Oct 10, 2025. ISSN 2413-2810.

Currently, Bolivia is a democracy without solid political parties, without a consolidated system of political organizations. These representative and intermediary entities are more legal fictions (legal entities) than real organizations, a negative aspect in a predominantly representative democracy such as the Plurinational State of Bolivia. The pre-election phase of the 2025 election cycle has once again demonstrated the profound problems and fragility of political representation that characterize Bolivian democracy. Democracy has functioned virtually without channels of political representation and mediation. The root of these problems lies in what Panebianco calls the "original model" of the political party. What is the reality of political parties in our democracy? What is their development model? Are they organizations that meet the conditions for institutionalization? This article addresses these questions within the framework of political party theory and formulates a proposal for the institutionalization of these organizations.

Keywords : representative democracy; political representation; political parties; “original party model”; institutionalization.
