MANCILLA CASTRO, Daniel Alejandro  e  PEREZ ROMAN, David. Yield and nutritional value of Azolla filiculoides fertilized with guinea pig manure in Arbieto, Cochabamba. RIIARn [online]. 2022, vol.9, n.2, pp.7-14. ISSN 2409-1618.  https://doi.org/10.53287/cbtn6542xa93u.

The Azolla filiculoides fern resides in lagoons of the Cochabamba valley, but its use in the agricultural field of such context has not been reported; The use of guinea pig manure (Cavia porcellus) in its cultivation has not been mentioned either, being necessary to evaluate its inclusion in guinea pig production systems. Therefore, the yield and nutritional value of Azolla fertilized with guinea pig manure in the Municipality of Arbieto, department of Cochabamba was evaluated using three trials: 1) first (pre-experimental); 4 000 g of Azolla were planted in a pond with a surface area of 4 m2 and a depth of 0.5 m, fertilized with 2 142 g of manure; 2) second (completely randomized experimental design); Two treatments with manure dosed at a rate of 857 g (T2), 571 g (T1) and a control without manure (T0) were compared in ponds with a surface area of 2 m2 and a depth of 0.4 m; 3) third and last (pre- experimental); the nutritional value of Azolla fertilized with 857 g of manure was obtained. The results were: 1 ) first trial; yield of 87.12 g m-2 day (CI95 % 35.90-138.35) of Azolla biomass; 2) second trial; yields obtained from T2=64.19 g m-2 day (CI95 % 41.21-87.17), T1=56.67 g m-2 day (CI95 % 45.10-68.24) and T0=24.98 g m-2 day (CI95 % 22.30-27.67), finding statistically significant differences between the three groups compared (P=0.0008), but not between the manure treatments (T1 and T2); 3) third trial; nutritional value in dry matter (6.64 %), protein (21.08 %), fiber (14.31 %), carbohydrates (43.67 %), ashes (20.03 %), fat (1.2 %) and energy value (18.04 kcal g-1). These parameters show that guinea pig manure can be used as fertilizer for the production of Azolla in the Municipality of Arbieto in the department of Cochabamba.
