Abstract

The introduction of improved varieties and a new production system will contribute to improve yields as well as the economic income of the producer families. The present study was carried out in Sapecho, located in the municipality of Palos Blancos in the Sud Yungas province of the department of La Paz, with the objective of evaluating the production of two rice varieties MAC FL 18 and Estaquilla Blanca, in two soil management systems and soil repair under a semi-mechanized method: soil A (chaqueo without burning) and soil B (chaqueo with burning). The statistical analysis used was Student's t-test for independent samples, which was used to determine whether or not there are differences between the averages of the groups compared. The results showed that there are statistical differences for the phenological, agronomic and yield study variables, and it was concluded that the practice of slashing without burning favors soil fertility A where yields were obtained; in the MAC FL 18 variety of 4,814.595 kg ha-1 and in Estaquilla Blanca of 4,703.529 kg ha-1. While in the practices with burning, soil B yields were 2 388.643 kg ha-1 for MAC FL 18 and 3 089.260 kg ha-1 for Estaquilla Blanca. Regarding the economic analysis, for the treatment without burning, a B/C cost/benefit ratio of 1.90 was obtained for MAC FL 18 and 1.63 for Estaquilla Blanca, the former being more profitable. In the case of slashing with burning, a B/C of 1.02 was obtained for MAC FL 18 and 1.13 for Estaquilla Blanca.
