Abstract The first studies on the classification of soils for irrigation purposes began in the United States of America in 1902, expanding to other countries in the following years. The incorporation of irrigation methods for production is limited by poor knowledge of the water-soil relationship. The area where the irrigation method is installed, will define the yields based on the characteristics considered by the study, it is for these reasons that the objective of the investigation is to classify the soils in the Patacamaya Experimental Station according to the irrigation aptitude, by means of the determination of the physical, chemical and hydraulic characteristics of agricultural soils, as well as classifying and mapping the soils of the study area according to the irrigation aptitude. The methodology consisted of the zoning of the physiographic units, evaluation of water quality, evaluation of the physical and chemical characteristics of soils. The results show that in the 39.46 studied, the physical-chemical characteristics of soils are: Sandy loam and sandy loam textural classes especially of arable layer or first soil horizon, non-saline land, have moderate effective depth of 0 to 100 cm; Low Cation Exchange Capacity (C.E.C); low to medium organic matter; medium to high fertility; Neutral to slightly alkaline pH scale (7.08 to 7.80). According to the classification of soils for aptitude for irrigation, 15.72 ha correspond to Class 2 with soil and drainage limitations; 23.74 ha correspond to Class 3 with soil and drainage limitations
