Abstract The research work aims to describe the morphology of bitter potato tubers according to the knowledge dialogue. The samples were collected in the municipality of San Andrés de Machaca and the qualitative variables were evaluated: tuber shape, depth and number of eyes, primary and secondary color (skin and pulp), distribution of secondary color and bud color based on descriptors of potato and the quantitative variables fresh weight, length, basal diameter, apical diameter. The results allow differentiating bitter potatoes according to local nomination. The varieties K'auna Luk'i, Luk'i, Laram Luk'i, Sisu, Ch'uqila, Pinku, Wila Pinku, Turillwajra, Mulunkhu, Q'aysa, Q'aysa 2 (poor uywiri Q'aysa) were identified, Wila Q'aysa, Umaluro, Ch'uqipitu, Muruq Luk'i, Sisu 2 and Qita whose denomination and characterization is based on local knowledge. According to theirtaxonomic classification, bitter potatoes belong to the species Solanum juzepczukii (2n=3x=36) and Solanum curtilobum (2n=5x=60). The varieties called K'auna Luk'i, Luk'i, Sisu, Laram Luk'iy Ch'uqila are obovoid, oblong and superficial eyes, while the varieties Khuchhijiphilla or Pinku, Wila Pinku, Turillwajra, Mulunkhu, Q'aysa, Q'aysa 2 (poor uywiri Q'aysa), Wila Q'aysa, Sisu 2, Laram Sisu are elongated and curved, flattened, elongated slightly curved, nailed and elongated with a thin basal end, slightly deep eyes whose skin color It is white, purple and pink with the color of white pulp to creamy white. The varieties called Umaluro, Ch'uqipitu, Muruq Luk'i and Qita are compressed, spherical and oblong, with slightly deep eyes, the Umaluru variety has a purple skin and pulp and the previous three are white. In conclusion, Marka Aransaya conserves the diversity of bitter potatoes with their own denominations that reflect the shape, color and characteristics of use, which belong to the species of Solanum juzepczukii and Solanum curtilobum.
