Introduction.

Human relationships are complex and can generate both well-being and conflicts. For this reason, it is essential to foster citizenship competencies in educational institutions. These competencies are key to forming individuals committed to a just and democratic society.

Objective.

The present study aims to conduct a systematic review using the PRISMA method, focusing on the strengthening of school coexistence through the development of citizenship competencies.

Materials and methods.

The PRISMA method was applied to ensure the reliability of the research searched in the Scopus database. Descriptors such as “school coexistence” and “citizenship competencies” were used in the search. The selection criteria included publications between 2017 and 2024, both national and international indexed articles, and those of open access. Quantitative research that was not focused on education or that was not related to the topic was excluded.

Results.

The initial selection yielded a total of 265 studies; however, after applying the exclusion criteria, this number was considerably reduced to 14 units of analysis. The studies reviewed coincide in pointing out school coexistence as a central challenge that must be addressed from an interdisciplinary approach. This approach requires joint and committed work on the part of all the actors involved.

Conclusion.

The findings underscore the need to implement public policies and educational practices that promote a culture of peace and respect, thus reinforcing the importance of citizenship competencies in school coexistence.
