CASTILLO MAGARINOS, CARLA LISSET  y  GRADOS TORREZ, RICARDO ENRIQUE. Global strategy for infant and young child feeding: steps to successful breastfeeding. Rev.Cs.Farm. y Bioq [online]. 2018, vol.6, n.2, pp.89-96. ISSN 2310-0265.

Abstract Good nutrition is essential for the health of children, especially in the stage between birth and two years of life. Biological and epidemiological studies show that the decision not to breastfeed has important negative effects on the nutrition, development and general health of the child and the mother. Breastfeeding is the health intervention that, with lower economic costs, achieves greater benefits on the health of the individual. Thus, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Emergency Fund for Children (UNICEF) adopted the "Global Strategy for Optimal Feeding of Infants and Young Children" that includes the ten steps towards a successful breastfeeding that recommends starting breastfeeding in the first hour of life and continuing with exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) during the firstsix months of life, in that guide, new mothers are encouraged to breastfeed their babies, guidelines are given to health professionals to support breastfeeding and that women do not abandon breastfeeding early.

Palabras clave : Ten steps towards successful breastfeeding; breast milk.
