Abstract The present review contains a description of the importance of biotechnology and the potential opportunities in the development of Enterprises in Bolivia for the biochemical pro-fessional. The information aims to make a com-parison of the differentforms of creation of suc-cessful companies, which helps to incentivize the entrepreneurial spirit in the Bolivian biochemical professionals. The types of biotechnology are mentioned, the ways in which other countries support the creation of new technology-based companies, the ways of generating added value through the creation of patents and the importance of pro-tecting intellectual property are addressed. as a way to preserve the innovation of entrepreneur-ship, being that this is the main characteristic of a successful company. Bolivia has great human and qualified potential, greatbiodiversity to develop Biotechnology through prívate and state companies. Uni-versities are called to be managers of change in the mentality of the new generations of pro-fessionals, to have entrepreneurial biochemists and, even more, innovative professionals.
