Abstract

CONDO MONTERO, CLAUDIA¹ et al. Evaluación de la susceptibilidad in vitro sobre trofozoitos de Giardia lamblia frente a extractos de plantas de la Medicina Tradicional Tacana. Rev.Cs.Farm. y Bioq [online]. 2016, vol.4, n.1, pp.105-112. ISSN 2310-0265.

Giardia lamblia, an enteric protozoan is found most often in coproparasitological tests, being the leading cause of parasitic diarrheal diseases in humans in those causes nutritional deficiencies and cognitive impairment. Given the impact on health and since this disease is associated with poverty, WHO included within Neglected Diseases. While it is true that there is treatment for these parasites, these are not always accessible in rural areas where traditional medicine, scientifically evaluated, can supportthe rational use of traditional medicine making an alternative in the control of Giardiasis. So this study conducted an evaluation of the antiparasitic activity of 27 ethanolic extracts of plant species of traditional Tacana medicine used in cases of diarrhea, these were evaluated in vitro on trophozoites of Giardia lamblia, the measurement of IC50 was performed using fluorometric method (resazur-in 2mM), working at a wavelength excitation and emission 540 and 590nm, respectively, with a parasitic trophozoites population of 7,5x105/mL, incubated at 37°C for 48hrs. from the 27 extracts of the pharmacopoeia Tacana extracts, a total of 14 (52%) had IC50 greater than 200ug/mL, 11 extracts (40.7%) had IC50 values between 100 and 200 ug/ ml and 2 extracts (7%) with values between 100 and 50ug/ml.Thus having Picantillo gin-ger (IC50 = 64.8 ± 11) and Chuchuhuasi (IC50 of 68 ± 21) as potential antiparasitic plants since they have similar IC50 to extract Galipea longiflora (IC50= 54 ± 9) plant species used for the treatment of parasites. These results allow the Tacana community discriminate between families of plants with antiparasitic activity in vitro of those who do not have such property against possible parasites that cause diarrhea.
