REVOLLO ZEPITA, SUSANA  y  TABORGA MANRIQUE, XIMENA. Diagnóstico de tuberculosis extrapulmonar mediante la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa. Rev.Cs.Farm. y Bioq [online]. 2013, vol.1, n.1, pp.37-46. ISSN 2310-0265.

Tuberculosis is a contagious infectious disease prevalent in all countries of the world but it has been listed as one of the "Disease of Poverty" as this is the sector most affected. They are susceptible to this disease both men and women of all ages, but usually causes further complications in immunocompromised. Although the form in lung, is the most common, Tuberculosis can affect any organ or tissue, it difficult laboratory diagnosis. The Institute Diagnostic Laboratory Service and Health Research, SELADIS through Molecular Biology Laboratory, make diagnosis of tuberculosis, especially extrapulmonary through Polimerasa Chain Reaction (PCR nested). In order to do this work we compiled data and results of 3771 patients who attended the laboratory between January 2008 and May 2013. We found a higher number of positive cases in the group of men. Considering the age groups most affected are over 80 years old and 51 -60 group. Most of the samples were blood, butthe highest percentage of positive results found in ascites and pleural liquid. Repeatedly processed two different samples from the same patient, such as blood and urine, but rarely found positive in both samples. On the other hand, the group in which there was lower percentage of positive cases was women 31-40 years old group, and the blood was the type of sample with less positive cases.
