RUIZ GARVIA, Ricardo. Geospatial analysis of the metropolitan form of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2024, n.36, pp.73-86. ISSN 2306-8671. https://doi.org/10.56992/a.v1i36.468.
The research on the metropolitan area of Santa Cruz has revealed significant findings regarding its urban development and land management. Situated in the subtropical Amazon region of South America, Santa Cruz has experienced substantial growth, becoming the municipality with the highest GDP and largest population in Bolivia. However, this growth has been disorderly and chaotic due to inadequate planning and management. Despite various efforts to address metropolitan planning, noteworthy progress has not been achieved due to a lack of coordination among the municipalities. In response, Research Center C.I.U.D.A.D. presented a detailed map of Gran Santa Cruz in 2022, created using open data and Geographic Information Systems and Artificial Intelligence tools. Specific maps addressing aspects such as road networks, population density, building footprint, and digital connectivity. These maps provided a detailed view of spatial distribution and development patterns, highlighting areas of high population density, urban expansion, and digital activity. The research results provide a solid foundation for addressing metropolitan challenges and promoting sustainable development in the region. It is essential to implement planned strategies and coordinated actions at the local and regional levels, integrating geographic, urban, and environmental considerations. The geospatial maps developed in this research serve as fundamental tools for informed decision-making and strategic planning in urban areas, contributing to the well-being and development of Gran Santa Cruz.
