The objective of this article is to demonstrate the relationship that exists between the use of the PhET virtual laboratory and the development of the competence inquires in the Science and Technology Area in 4th grade students of a secondary school in the city of Cusco. Regarding the methodology, the study is part of the quantitative approach and quasi-experimental level experimental design. The instrument that has been used is a validated checklist of 16 items that collected data from 10 virtual sessions where the PhET virtual laboratory was used. The sample was made up of 60 students for the experimental group and 60 for the control group: all male and belonging to the fourth grade of secondary school. The most important conclusion says that the- re is a significant relationship between the use of the PhET virtual simulator and the development of the inquiring competence of the Science and Technology Area of the students in the sample. Which means that, the greater the use of virtual laboratories, in comparison with the traditional ones, the greater the possibilities of developing the inquiring competence in a better way.
