LEVANO, Sofía; BENITES, Sandra e TELLO ALVAREZ, Cecilia. Intercultural competence in translation: bibliometric analysis. Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2023, n.35, pp.7-26. ISSN 2306-8671. https://doi.org/10.56992/a.v1i35.432.
The cultural element is present in every human interaction, however, the lack of knowledge of some behaviors, attitudes, expressions, and ideologies generates intercultural communication problems. Intercultural competence, understood as a horizontal openness towards the other, is a recurrent topic in studies in all fields of knowledge, from hard sciences to human sciences. This paper aims at observing scientific production on intercultural competence in three scenarios: 1) the thematic fields in which the scientific production is organized in Scopus, 2) the area of social sciences, and 3) the field of translation. In this context, a bibliometric review was carried out and the Prisma method was used to filter the research papers; consequently, the studies associated with intercultural competence in the field of translation could be deeply analyzed. It was found that there has been a steady increase in the production of articles on intercultural competence in various disciplines; however, in the field of translation, productivity has been lower in Scopus. Although the results do not show a recurrence that allows us to analyze impact and visibility, they offer relevant data for the construction of maps on intercultural studies in the field of translation.
