Abstract

GARCIA-ROJAS, Fabiola  and  MENDOZA, Guillermo. Construction and validation of the Attitude Scale towards Teamwork (AST). Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2023, n.34, pp.5-16. ISSN 2306-8671.

Abstract In college level education, group activities that require teamwork are common. The success or failure in this stage is influenced in many cases for the student's capacity to efficiently function in team work activities. From the faculty perspective, knowing the attitude towards teamwork their students have, can be beneficial. In the bibliographical review, no instruments were found to measure the attitude towards teamwork specifically in university students. For this reason, the main goal of this paper is to present the Attitude Scale towards Teamwork (AST) validated in the university context. The scale was applied to 223 college students. The results show that 22 items are distributed in four factors: 1) willingness to work in a team, 2) participation in the team, 3) disinterest; and 4) intragroup communication. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale is 0.86, which demonstrates the reliability of the AST scale. Likewise, the scale has content validity supported by three experts and with construct validity. This instrument was tested on a sample of university students and has scales in the Santa Cruz population. Finally, the possible uses for this test are discussed
