Abstract

ITURRALDE TORRICO, Paola. Toborochi fiber craft thread. Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2022, n.32, pp.9-20. ISSN 2306-8671.

Abstract The objective of this research is to demonstrate the possibility of spinning the fiber of the Ceiba Especiosa or Toborochi tree as an alternative to 100% cotton fiber or to incorporate it with more than 70%, for the design and manufacture of yarns and pressed textiles and even to manufacture objects. Toborochi yarn is a natural fiber and therefore biodegradable; it does not require pesticides or large quantities of water during its manufacture. It is a native plant whose protection, reduces erosion, enhances forest conservation and resilience, generates wildlife habitat, improves air quality and mitigates the adverse effects of climate, among others, in addition to being a source of economic income for the local population. It is important to consider that Toborochi yarn has less resistance, so it´s recommended to make yarn from the thread to increase resistance. By the end of the investigation process, two garments were made with 100% Toborochi yarn

Keywords : handmade yarn; Toborochi; biodegradable; ecological.
