OSEJO-BUCHELI, Camilo. On initiation, myth and its theodicy.. Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2021, n.30, pp.85-92. ISSN 2306-8671.
Abstract Initiations have been a widespread practice in many cultures, especially with young men. These rites follow a general ordination that recreates an archetypal structure. The myth of the hero is present in multiple cultures archetypally. The initiation and rites of passage recreate the hero's journey. Shamanic initiation is characterized by an intentional sensory deprivation, whose purpose is to create anxiety and fear in the initiate. The rite of initiation is intended to transform the initiate into the mythical hero. This essay traces ancient rituals in the expressions of modern folklore and uses the example of a contemporary initial cultural community to show the existence and validity of these initiation and passage rites in a positive way. It concludes with the theodicy of the initiate in his finding of divinity in his own life and the identification of good and evil as part of his nature.
