Abstract

STEINBACH MENDEZ, Ingrid. The craft activity with clay from Cotoca, 40 years with Artecampo. Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2020, n.29, pp.59-80. ISSN 2306-8671.

Abstract The research describes the socioeconomic and cultural conditions in which Cotoca's pottery population currently produces and markets handcrafted pieces made from clay, showing that changes and innovations in design and production have generated a new productive era that is growing without political/cultural orientation, influenced by free initiative and foreign influences. At the same time, the work that has been promoted for 40 years by the Center for Research, Craft Design, and Commercialization (CIDAC), through the Association of Ceramic Craftswomen affiliated with Artecampo, is highlighted as a very positive experience in training craftswomen and creating new designs while maintaining a local identity and offering high quality ceramics.

Keywords : crafts; pottery; clay; ceramists; cultural identity; Cotoca.
