Abstract

LUNA ORTUNO, Jorge. Lorgio Vaca, the hands that imagined Santa Cruz. Rev. aportes de la comunicación [online]. 2019, n.26, pp.09-22. ISSN 2306-8671.

Abstract From an investigation carried out in the Plurinational Center of Culture, this article presents a systematization of ideas on the ceramic murals made by Lorgio Vaca in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The technique of polychrome ceramic relief is an innovation introduced by Lorgio Vaca in Bolivia, which implied an entire philosophy of dialogue with the materials and a sort of logic of sensation. It implicated a singular philosophy, the sense of a conversation with materials and some kind of logic's sensation. With his murals, Lorgio Vaca generated a visual presence in the city that invited us to imagine Santa Cruz, the possible one, recconecting the city with his past and showing the glimpsesofit'sfuture. Healsoshowedthatthebattlefield to fight the cultural oppression suffered by the American countries, could be the imagination's battlefield, where the established powers don't have control. However, this action was executed with the hands, thinking with the hands and imagining with them as a standup point.

Keywords : Muralism; ceramic; public art; ideology; collective imaginary; muralist's philosophy.
