Abstract Parental care depends on the subjective, affective, social and economic conditions of the parents to sustain themselves as a presence that can care for and guide their children. When these conditions present difficulties, in many cases, the care of the children is derived, to third parties, be brothers, extended family or institutions. The loss of parental care not only brings risks at a physical level, but also physical and social, as it can be evidenced - the study shows -situations of uprooting, wandering and vulnerability in children and adolescents, who have lost the care of the parental figures, affective references of containment and normative orientation of which they can be used for their passage through life.
