ABSTRACT Much emphasis is placed on the place they have occupied communication phenomena in other sciences and fields of knowledge, however the presence of information and data on this field in the history texts could be explored further by studies of social communication, considering that this is an approach to communication in speeches whose aims were focused on other categories and dimensions. The work presented aims to examine how the historiography of Cuba of the 1870s, 1980s and 1990s has given it a space addres-sing public communication. This requires a dialogue with historians of the island from a selection of works, in which speech is imposed has realized about media, communication and cultural practices in unions and associations scenarios, public spaces and activity discursive relevant figures. Second, several reflections will be presented in relation to the most significant issues on the subject, as well as the challenges and prospects it is for comunicología. Among historians considered for analysis include, Ramiro Guerra, Manuel Moreno Fraginals, Hortensia Pichardo and Julio Le Riverend.
